PERU 2004

In October of 2004 my friend Jennifer and I set out on a wonderful adventure to Peru and Ecuador with Overseas Adventure Travelers. Following are several photos of the highlights of our time in Peru one of which was of course Machu Picchu.
For our Ecuador and Galapagos photos return to the home page.

We boarded a shuttle in Agua Caliente and traversed this narrow, winding road up to the ruins.
The first afternoon we explored the amazing Incan ruins of Machu Picchu.
The Temple of the Sun is one of a very few circular Incan structures.
Jennifer stops to rest on some of the many steep, rough steps we climbed.
The Royal Tomb lies below the Temple of the Sun and has sculpted stairs that seemingly lead nowhete, symbolizing life's journey to a higher sprititual plane.
Left is the original entry door to the city. On the right is the scrificial altar where animals were sacrified during religious ceremonies. All religious ceremonies were performed out doors.
